Former FBI director testifies
The former director of the FBI has come out strongly, detailing interaction with the American president during which some accuse Donald Trump of obstructing justice.
James Comey says he felt that Trump was giving him “direction” when Trump asked him to “let it go.” The president was referring to an investigation into his former national security adviser, who hid contacts with Russian officials.
–I don’t think it’s for me to say whether the conversation I had with the president was an effort to obstruct. I took it as a very disturbing thing – very concerning. But that’s a conclusion I’m sure the special counsel will work towards to try and understand what the intention was there and whether that’s an offense.
Comey gave his highly anticipated testimony before a Senate Intelligence committee just a month since he was fired by Trump. Comey accused Trump of lying in an attempt to defame him and described what he called awkward interactions with the president while he was still in his role. He also confirmed Trump himself was not under investigation.
As Comey testified, Trump spoke to his supporters and vowed to fight on.
-We’re under siege. You understand that. But we will come out bigger and better and stronger than ever. You watch.
